FAQ  -  FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q - Why don't I just install new formica countertops?

A - You could, but you may / will encounter these obstacles:

1- In a kitchen installation the sink will have to be removed, plumbing will be required and possibly new plumbing parts, adding to the overall project cost.
2- If there is a cook-top in the counter, this must also be removed which would also add to the overall charges of your project.
3- Walls are rarely straight, so countertops usually need to be scribed to fit the wall properly.
4- Any sort of customized formica (window sills, islands, special edging, etc.) is far more expensive to purchase and is much trickier to install. Simply put, formica fabrication and installation is no easy task.

Q: What does the application process consist of?

A: If your project is going over formica, the surface is first cleaned and sanded. Next, a coat of material is brushed and rolled onto the surface and Roklook is shaken into the wet coating. After a short drying time, the excess Roklook is swept up and a series of multi - layer clear coats are then applied. The surface dries for 12 hours and is then ready for use. If your project is coating ceramic tile, a special tile preparer is used and then basically the same multi-layered process, as described above is done. If your project is plywood or particle board only sanding is required for preparation. This is only a general application description, time proven proprietary coatings and methods are described in detail in the instructional DVD and manual.

Q - How long does the process take?

A - An average size formica kitchen countertop can be completed in one day with no demolition, no dust, and no harmful fumes. No job should take more than two days.

Q - Will my house smell?

A - The Roklook System smells no worse than ordinary house paint, but anyone who may be sensitive to those types of odors should stay away during the installation process

Q - Can I put hot pans on the surface?

A - You should not put extremely hot pans on any surface, including Roklook, but the Roklook System will withstand temperatures to 210 degrees fahrenheit, and stain resistance is phenomenal.

Q - Can ceramic tile be coated with Roklook?

A - Yes, with a special tile preparer available on the purchase page.  Old and odd color ceramic tile can receive the Roklook look successfully.

Q. How are the edges and backsplashes applied?

A - All vertical areas are done first. The rounded and squared edges and backsplashes are taped off and coated with a brush. When they are dry, the tape is pulled off and the horizontal application is completed. Seperate backsplashes, such as tile may be treated up to one foot in height. An actual application showing this is in the intstructional DVD.
